Head To The South Shore To Experience The Bay State's Best New Brewery

The hottest up-and-coming brewery in Massachusetts is located in a humble Weymouth industrial park.  Vitamin Sea Brewing is a cleverly named, new-to-market brew center that also happens to be home to some award winning beers.

The owners' brewery adventure started out like many others, with a group of friends, a home brew kit, and a dream.

Dino Funari, Pete Kiley, Rich DiBona, and Josh Sherman began brewing batches of "awful beer" in their basements and kitchens in 1991. As they tinkered with the recipes and added new equipment, they began to hone their collective craft.

Although very critical of their own product, the Vitamin Sea gang realized they were on to something.

They set up shop in a hip, former garage this February and went up against 63 other breweries in a contest hosted by Boston Magazine.

Vitamin Sea defeated some of the area's biggest players including Narragansett, Backlash, Springdale and Tree House Brewing, coming in First Place!

Despite their success, the crew have not forgotten their humble roots. There was a time in the not-so-distant past, when they stocked their famous blue cooler with home brews, allowing patrons to trade 4 packs of store-bought beer for their creations.

This, along with local festival participation and ratings by beer enthusiasts on the website “Untapped,” quickly grew the business to where it is today.

The brewery currently offers 10 - 12 beers on tap, and is open for draft pours every Saturday from noon to 8 PM.

The tap room is cozy, with wooden benches, strings of white lights, and two large garage doors the staff open during tastings.

Due to their overwhelming success, the brewery crew hope to add more tasting hours on Thursday or Friday nights.

Be sure to check out the Vitamin Sea Facebook and Twitter sites for other dates and events that might become available.
