Tom Brady’s approachability key for Patriots success

Anyone who has played on a sports team or done a group project (ugh, those are the worst) knows the importance of communication and chemistry. In sports especially, it is something that matters in order for a team to reach their peak capacity.

Yahoo Sports did a solid job explaining why that is this week when talking with fullback James Develin. So Develin was a practice squad player five years ago and Brady made sure to come up to the young fullback and introduce himself a Tom Brady. Now, obviously anyone who signs with the Patriots knows who Tom Brady is, but it was Brady’s way of having a positive first encounter with the guy. He was showing that he is an approachable guy and not someone to be intimidated by because of the success he has enjoyed on the field--which is a lot, by the way.

Brady might be 40 years old, but he’s playing with a bunch of guys who are like 10-17 years younger than him. That’s not something guys have growing up. It happens in the pros (rarely), but it’s probably more common in men’s amateur football which is really just for fun.

As highly as we probably all think of Brady, he is just another guy on the team. He gets yelled at at practice. He probably has to run laps sometimes.

Teams need good leadership to thrive and between Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Devin McCourty, David Andrews, Dont’a Hightower and Matthew Slater, it seems like they have it.

After all, they are going for their sixth Super Bowl win on Sunday. Plus, we saw Brady’s maturity earlier in the week when he didn’t decapitate that little rat Alex Reimer for his comments about Brady’s daughter. Just another lesson that sports talk radio is trash.
