The Red Sox are in a decent spot

This is a great opportunity for the Red Sox.

This season hasn't been great for the team and they're gonna have some challenges over the next month or so, particularly at home. However, these next six games right in front of them are a golden opportunity for them to shine. Allow us to explain.

Through 31 games, the Red Sox record sits at 14-17. That's three games below .500. That's not ideal. But if you break it down a little further, it's not as bad. You see, they started out the season at 3-9 which means they are 11-8 in their last 19 games. Plus, the upcoming schedule really does favor them.

After sweeping the Oakland A's, the Red Sox are set to face some favorable opponents in back-to-back road series(es): the Chicago White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles.

The White Sox were 13-15 following their May 1 win over the Baltimore Orioles, who fell to 11-21 with their loss. Keep in mind, the White Sox play in a weak division which features the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals. And the Orioles, although better than they were last season, are not exactly the most competent team going either.

That said, this represents a real opportunity for the Red Sox to get closer to .500 and help narrow the gap in the AL East. This hole they dug themselves into is going to take awhile to get out of but if they're going to contend this season, this is one of those stretches they will really need to capitalize upon. After all, they are only 5.5 games back in the standings right now, so there is still hope.

Maybe the fact that they're not playing video games in the clubhouse as much this year could help. Who knows? We'll find out soon enough.
