The Best Spots In Connecticut To Visit With Your Dog

Connecticut is all about beaches, ocean breezes and breathtaking views. If you find yourself visiting the Constitution State with your dog in tow, why not spend a day seeing Connecticut through canine eyes? Here are the best spots in CT to play, eat and enjoy a treat with your pup.

For Fun:

Although seasonal, many of Connecticut’s most beautiful beaches are dog-friendly. Between October 1 and March 31 your pooch can dip his paws in the water, dig in the sand and meet new friends at the Jennings Dog Beach in Fairfield or Compo Beach in Westport.

If you and your furry BFF prefer hiking to the salt life, there are also plenty of incredible nature trails to enjoy. At Bear Mountain Reservation in Danbury the various trails permit off-leash dogs to roam free throughout wilderness areas, rocky outcroppings and sandy spots alongside Candlewood Lake.

For the history buffs, try an afternoon at the Mystic Seaport exploring the classic ships and strolling through 19th century village recreations. Dogs are welcome to join you on museum grounds and in the nine gardens, but they may not enter museum buildings or go aboard any of the museum vessels.

For Food:

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, visit Brendan’s 101 in Norwalk for seafood dishes and classic pub dishes. Dogs are welcome on the patio where they are provided ceramic bowls of fresh water and treats while you dine.

Stowe’s Seafood in West Haven is a local’s favorite. It’s a casual, beachfront clam shack with dog-friendly picnic tables. The lobster rolls and fried clams are so good that lines form early in the summer, so prepare to wait!

In the mood for something a wee bit more diverse? Check out J.P. Dempsey’s State Street Food & Drink in New Haven. They serve everything from fried seafood to burgers to pasta and pizzas, and if you opt to sit on the patio, your pup can join you!

For A Treat:

When it’s time for a little dessert, Connecticut’s eateries make sure that Fido isn’t left out. The Shake Shack in Westport has incredible frozen custard options for the humans and a Doggy Sundae for your pooch.

The Sea View Snack Bar in Mystic overlooks gorgeous Mystic Harbor. You can grab a soft serve cone for yourself and a grilled chicken patty for your pup.

The Brownstone Bakery for Dogs in Avon offers upscale dog treats and pastries for the connoisseur of canine cuisine in your life. The adorable treats look good enough for humans to eat – and actually, they are! Everything is made with healthy, all natural, human grade ingredients.
