The 6 Bests Brunch Spots In And Around Boston

Is there anything more decadent than sleeping in on a weekend morning, followed by a massive brunch? While there are certainly no shortage of restaurants in and around Boston that serve this indulgent meal, Boston.com rounded up the 6 best spots based on thousands of recent Yelp reviews.

1. Mike & Patty’s — 12 Church St., Boston

An unassuming cafe in Downtown Boston serving eight breakfast sandwich varieties. Fresh, local, farm-to-table ingredients are utilized to create best sellers like the “Fancy,” with its California twist of avocado, eggs, bacon, red onions, house mayo and cheddar cheese on multigrain bread, and the loaded-with-cheese “Breakfast Grilled Crack.”

2. City Tap House — 10 Boston Wharf Rd., Seaport

For those who like a little “hair of the dog” with their brunch, City Tap House offers 60 brews on draft and 40 by the bottle, plus their own signature “Beermosa.” Try it paired with their upscale version of the Southern classic, Chicken & Waffles. A Belgian waffle is topped with buttermilk Cajun-marinated chicken, and served with honey thyme butter, red pepper jam and Vermont maple syrup.

3. 3 Little Figs — 278 Highland Ave., Somerville

This bakery/craft-coffee shop/restaurant is an excellent choice for those picky vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free eaters. Offerings run the gamut from fresh yogurt, fruits and grains to decadent sandwiches of egg, caramelized bacon and melty cheese – not to mention the exquisite coffee! Owner and chef, Katie Rooney recommends the Black Pepper Bisquit with a cappuccino.

4. Oat Shop — 22A College Ave., Somerville

Brand new and already blowing up, this Somerville spot specializes in – you guessed it – oatmeal! But this ain’t your mama’s Quaker Oats! They serve sweet and savory concoctions such as the Almond Joy and the Sushi. The best seller so far has been the Bacon and Eggs, consisting of cheddar cheese oatmeal, with a fried egg, bacon and scallions.

5. Highland Kitchen — 150 Highland Ave., Somerville

Also in Somerville, the Highland Kitchen specializes in Southern-style comfort food like beignets, hushpuppies and mac & cheese.  Their best seller is the “Dirty Bird,” which is a fried chicken breast with applewood smoked bacon, fried egg, and sausage gravy on a buttermilk biscuit.

6. Loyal Nine — 660 Cambridge St., Cambridge

Loyal Nine, located in Kendall Square, puts a unique spin on classic brunch items. The Augusta Potato Rosti is a really fancy take on a classic military favorite. It consists of cream-chipped beef on a hash brown, aka “s*** on a shingle.” But the restaurant’s best seller is the Lobster Popover with rendered pork fat, fresh local lobster, a poached egg, and classic Hollandaise sauce.
