Speculating Ante Zizic onto the Celtics 2017-2018 roster

Think to yourself for a question: what were you doing at 20 years old?

Probably thought of something and thought how much life was different or will be at that age than it is now. Well, how about a 20-year-old on the Boston Celtics roster? Or–to put it this way–another on their roster. This is something that could happen this upcoming NBA season.

What makes you say that, T-Bone? Well, first of all, my name is not T-Bone. And second of all, this Tweet:

Now if you’re fluent in whatever the heck language that is (I only know English, some Spanish, can read but can’t speak some Scots and can make out other bits of other romance languages), you’ll be able to see what it says–or maybe you read the tweet. Anyhoo, why would Ante Zizic, who the Celtics drafted late in the first round last year not be playing for Team Croatia in EuroBasket this summer? Uh. Three words, kind human: Celtics training camp.

If the C’s weren’t looking at him as a potential guy to make their roster, and if he didn’t think he had a shot at it, do you really think he’d pass up this type of opportunity? Keep in mind, the EuroBasket tourney is from August 31 to September 17. So something must’ve changed if he was going to play in it and now he’s not going to play in it.

Think about it: he’s a big man, listed at 6-foot-10. He was solid in the EuroLeague last year (9 points per game, 6.7 rebounds). Oh, and uh, the Celtics don’t have much to choose from when it comes to big men. Amir Johnson was overpaid, so his return is doubtful. Tyler Zeller could probably get bigger minutes elsewhere. And Kelly Olynyk is a restricted free agent, so someone might bite. So maybe this Zizic guy fills a void somewhere.

The C’s need rebounders, so maybe he’s their hero.
