NFL.com shows the Patriots some love

WOW!

This is legitimately amazing. I am very impressed. You should be very impressed. We should be surprised that it happened, but it's the truth.

So what the heck am I talking about: NFL.com did preseason NFL power rankings -- and they actually got them (mostly) right. And by right, I mean they correctly identified the No. 1 team in the league. I don't know how No. 2-32 stack up.

Frankly, we could argue for days about whether Atlanta should be 17 and Jacksonville should be 18 and random stuff like that.

However, what matters is that the Patriots were ranked No. 1. That's right: the defending Super Bowl champs are considered the best team in the league this season, according to Dan Hanzus' lineup. He's a smart cookie for this one...

Here is what he had to say about the Patriots in particular:

"Defending champions should never drop out of the No. 1 spot in a preseason power rankings exercise. Josh Gordon's reinstatement is a huge lift for an offense crossing its fingers for an impact from the likes of Maurice Harris, Jakobi Meyers and first-round pick N'Keal Harry. As for the guy who will be throwing the ball: ESPN's Mike Reiss recently wrote that Tom Brady, who turned 42 earlier this month, has "been as sharp as ever" at Patriots camp. Don't be surprised at the end of the season when this is a top-10 offense -- again."

By again, he is referring to how the Patriots did pretty well last season.

This is like amazing stuff.

This is really nice. It is accurate but normally, we are subjected to crap takes about how the Patriots are finished and are going to go 4-12 and all that.

This is straight up honest. Getting Josh Gordon back is a nice addition to the receiving corps. Tom Brady is aging like fine wine. And then there's draft picks and all that who are apparently doing well. Good stuff!
