Mookie, David Price get huge MLB honors

It's about time a Red Sox player earned an award for something--and it's fair to say we should be very happy with what they got.

Let's ignore the position by position ones and go right into the meat: Mookie Betts won AL MVP and David Price was the AL Comeback Player of the Year. That's what I'm talking about!

Mookie Betts hit .346, had 32 bombs, stole 30 bases and played stellar defense. His WAR (wins above replacement) was 10.9 despite making a DL trip during the season. It's honestly one of the better seasons in MLB history, if we're being honest; it ranks 21st despite him missing time with an injury. If he played all 162 games, that would've been top-10 seasons of all-time. Oh yeah, and everyone who has had a higher WAR season than Betts is in the Hall of Fame (except Barry Bonds), so he has that to look forward to at some point. Very well-deserved award.

And then there's David Price, postseason hero. He really had a sound year for the Red Sox after being limited to nine starts in 2017; this time around, he went 16-7 with a 3.58 ERA in 30 starts and 177 strikeouts in 176 innings. This actually raised his career ERA, as crazy as that sounds.

However, Price's regular season stats don't really matter to me. He got the job done in the postseason--and that's what matters. He pitched well in the ALCS and World Series and because of that, the Red Sox have rings now. That in itself was an amazing story after the way he had struggled mightily in past Octobers.

So yeah, these are very well-deserved awards that are great to see handed out to Red Sox players. Let's hope their momentum carries over into next season as well.
