The Mayflower's 400th Anniversary Celebration Is Slated For Spring 2020

Have you ever wondered what it was like aboard the Mayflower as it made its fateful 1620 voyage to the Massachusetts coast? Next spring you'll get the chance to find out!

The 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims’ fateful landing is coming up, and the Mayflower II - a full-scale replica of the original ship - will sail to Boston as part of the commemorative celebration.

The event will take place at the Charlestown Navy Yard from May 14 to May 19, 2020 where attendees will have the chance to board and explore the ship.

The Mayflower II was built in England in the 1950s, and gifted to the United States as a token of friendship after World War II.

The ship is usually docked in Plymouth Harbor as an exhibit at Plimoth Plantation. However, it has been undergoing $11.2 million worth of restorations at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut since 2016. 

Sadly, the original Mayflower was lost to history sometime after its discovery of the New World and return trip to England.

The Mayflower Sails 2020 event will include retellings of the ship's voyage, its passengers, and the complex relationship between the Pilgrims and Native Americans.

According to organizers, the 400 year anniversary celebration will also feature:

• Live music including a “Rock the Dock” concert
• VIP speakers
• Free tours of Mayflower II
• Food trucks and a beer garden
• Educational opportunities for nonprofits and schools

The six-day event will be free for the public. Tickets will be available early next year through the Mayflower Sails 2020 website.
