Manny Ramirez attempting a comeback

Remember the days when Manny Ramirez roamed left field for the Boston Red Sox?

Yeah. Most people should. And they should remember how Manny was probably the most gifted Red Sox hitter in the last 55 years. Good news, everyone. It looks like he’s not done playing baseball. And yes, you can call it a comeback.

TMZ Sports reports the 44-year-old Ramirez is considering playing next year, most likely overseas. Don’t believe TMZ? It sounds like they spoke to his wife, Juliana.

“He is training extremely hard,” Juliana told TMZ. “Batting, CrossFit, Orange Theory. He never stops.

“I told him, ‘Go for it!’,” she added. “Baseball is the love of his life other than his family and I totally support him 100% … ’cause I know how much it means for him.”

Ramirez hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2011 — when he was a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. But then he got caught for using PEDs for the second time in his career and then that was that.

The last time Ramirez, who played for the Red Sox from 2001 to 2008 and finished his MLB career with 555 career homers, played pro ball was in 2014 when he was a player/coach for the Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs. That year, he hit .222 with a .648 OPS in 24 games. And, believe it or not, he even played 15 innings in left field and didn’t make an error.

Not too sure if Manny wants to just play the game again or if he wants a big league comeback. Either way, he should go for it. His swing still looks pretty good — even now.

Not sure if the Red Sox would consider a guy like that seeing how Andrew Benintendi seems like he’ll occupy left field for a long time and there’s another Ramirez playing DH with a name that rhymes with Manny. Regardless, it wouldn’t be bad to see him hit one more time.
