Jarrett Stidham is an intriguing QB draft pick

Alright, so I guess we should probably talk about this quarterback the Patriots selected in the NFL Draft last week.

There tends to be a lot of attention brought to the position, especially since the Patriots already have the greatest one of all-time and he is over the age of 40. That said, whenever they make a move there, we have to closely analyze it and see if this is the one. Is this the guy who could take over for Tom Brady at some point in the future? It's a bold statement and we will have to see how each guy does at the next level as well as how Brady is doing and feeling--because he might be able to play until he's 45, if we're being honest.

Anyways, Jarrett Stidham was the team's fourth round pick, a QB out of Auburn. The pocket passer completed 60.7 percent of his passes at Auburn last season, slinging 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while throwing for 2,794 yards.

Apparently, he's not much of a runner either. According to NFL.com, his draft comp is AJ McCarron. That might not be completely accurate, but there's worse picks at QB than McCarron -- like Kevin O'Connell in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Stidham received high praise from his former college football coach Gus Malzahn as well. He tweeted out that his former quarterback was the "steal of the draft".

Maybe he's right. Maybe he's wrong. Stidham's mom might as well have tweeted out that she thought her son was the steal of the draft. These college coaches love seeing their guys move up to the next level, so he was likely just trying to be nice.

We'll get a chance to see Stidham in the preseason. If he can overtake Brian Hoyer for the backup QB job, then we'll know if he's legit or not.
