 No matter which New England state you live in, St. Patrick's Day is a time for celebration. With the holiday just around the corner, here are the most fun-filled, festive and unique events each state has to offer this year.

West Hartford, Connecticut

On Friday, March 16 and Saturday the 17, the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society will fill your evening with authentic Irish food, history, music and games. For just $40 ( $35 for museum members) you will enjoy a dinner of Guinness steak pie and Irish soda bread, rock out to traditional Irish music as step dancers perform, and play lantern-lit 19th-century tavern games such as  Skittles, Captain's Mistress, and Shove Ha'penny in the circa 1748 birthplace of Noah Webster. Open to all ages!

 

Portland, Maine

 Rí Rá Paddy’s Day Plunge

This event is not for the faint of heart - or body! Each year, a group of Polar Bear Club wannabes gather at East End Beach bright and early at 5:30 a.m. for the Rí Rá Paddy’s Day Plunge. This tradition is in its 17th year and benefits the Portland Firefighters Children’s Burn Foundation. Swimmers who survive the arctic waters are invited to a complimentary St. Patrick’s Day Irish breakfast at Rí Rá Irish Pub & Restaurant, followed by a live auction and raffle.

 

Boston, Massachusetts

 The St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Where else would a Bostonian be on St. Patrick's Day weekend?! 2018 marks the 117th year for the Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade, hosted by the Allied War Veterans Council of South Boston. This year, 250 marching groups, 75 floats, and 35 bands plan to make their way along the 3 mile parade route starting Sunday at 1 PM.

 

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

St. Patrick’s Comedy Gala

Think outside the box and take in a comedy show this year. This unique event takes place Saturday, March 17 at 8 PM at Portsmouth’s historic Music Hall. Three successful Irish comics from New England - Jim McCue, Joey Carrol and Kendra Cunningham - will perform their favorite jokes at the expense of our area's Irish culture! Tickets are $32 for restricted view seats and $37 for full view.

 

Providence, Rhode Island

 ‘Luck of the Irish’ St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl

Prepare yourself for a good, old-fashioned pub crawl through Providence. Saturday, from 11 AM to 7 PM, attendees will visit the Whiskey Republic, Hanley’s Ale House, The Stable, Hot Club, and G Pub with free entry, live music, drink specials, and giveaways. Get your tickets online.

 

West Dover, Vermont

 ShamRock Fest

Mount Snow’s two day, Bud Lite St. Paddy's Day annual themed music festival takes place Friday and Saturday. ShamRock Fest offers beer, breakfast, lots of live Irish music, and a scavenger hunt. Whoever finds the pot of gold will win a season pass to the ski mountain! Free musical performances will take place between noon and 5 PM  and ticketed shows are at 9 PM in the Snow Barn both days. Admission is $15 online and $20 at the door for Snow Barn performances.
