Everything You Need To Know About Boston’s First-Ever Pizza Festival

On Saturday July 8 and Sunday July 9, the first of what will hopefully become an annual event will take place at City Hall Plaza. The Boston Pizza Festival is a 2-day outdoor extravaganza featuring the best culinary offerings of more than 30 local and international pizza vendors, each vying for the title of “Boston Pizza Festival Pizza Champion.”

New York and Chicago may be the American cities best known for their pizza, but this event hopes to change all that. Aside from the the cheesy, fresh-baked goodness, the festival will feature live music, pizza-making demos from five high-profile chefs, wine and beer for sale, and lots of giveaways.

Tickets are $15 each for a full-day – but keep in mind, this only covers admission. Each vendor will be selling their products individually. According to festival organizer Raffaele Scalzi, who owns Casa Mia Cicina Italiana in Marblehead, the prices will be low. About $2 per slice and $6 for a whole pizza.

The event has strong ties to the one-and-only Naples Pizza Festival. Organizers have partnered with the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), which has legal authority to protect true Neapolitan pizza.

All pizzas will be cooked on site using 30 wood-fired pizza ovens provided by the Italian handcrafted oven-maker, Marra Forni.

Each vendor plans to offer cheese and margherita pizzas to please the general public, but will also create at least one specialty pizza, and the options could get pretty wild!

Reach for the Pie will serve cheeseburger pizza with ground beef, ketchup, mustard and pickles, and their Thanksgiving pizza featuring ground turkey, squash, cranberry sauce, stuffing and gravy.
