Denver Broncos preying on hate

This might come as a surprise to some, but there are some people out there who really don’t like the New England Patriots.

There’s something about winning teams and the rest of the country hating them. No one is talking about how much they hate the Cleveland Browns unless they actually live in Cleveland. But the Patriots have had a winning record and four Super Bowls rings (potentially five) in seasons dating back to 2001. Their success has made them a target — big time.

It’s not even drunken fans with nothing to lose giving the Patriots hate anymore either. This week, the Patriots have received their share of criticism from the Denver Broncos — much of which has been stirred up by the media.

Defensive end Derek Wolfe became the most recent Bronco to contribute to the anti-New England mentality this week.

“I hate everything about them,” he told The Denver Post recently. “They’re always in my way. They’re always in my way to get what I want.”

“I’ve got a ton of respect for the whole organization. They’ve got great players — Tom Brady’s a great player. Bill Belichick’s a great coach. I’ve got a ton of respect for them. I just hate them.”

Well as long as he can recognize greatness, that’s something.

But if someone were reading newspapers out in the mountains (not that anyone really reads newspapers anymore), they might also think Brady is soft. At least, they might think that if loaded questions are their muse.

“That would be an accurate statement. I’ve never seen any quarterback look to the referee right after he gets sacked more than Brady,” Broncos defensive lineman Antonio Smith told The Colorado Springs Gazette on Monday when asked if Brady was a “crybaby”. “Every time he gets sacked he looks at the ref like, ‘You see him sack me? Was that supposed to happen? He did it a little hard. Please throw a 15-yard penalty on him. Get him fined.'”

Somehow that paper won a Pulitzer Prize in 2014. No wonder why newspapers are on their way out.

What a way to start a week. It was the first opporunity the Broncos media had a chance to talk to players that week. Not a bad way to start trouble.

Paul Klee deserves some respect though. Not only did he have the guts to ask that kind of question, but he has the courage to wear a mop on his head out in public.

 

Who cares what the media says? The Pats are three point favorites in Vegas.
