Dennis Seidenberg calls it quits

What a career it was for the former Boston Bruins player. Now, it's all over.

There will never be another instance of Dennis Seidenberg playing in another NHL game, according to multiple reports. The German defenseman, who has not played in a game since the 2017-2018 NHL season, announced he will be retiring for good.

He last played hockey competitively at the 2018 Worlds but as 98.5 The Sports Hub points out, Seidenberg cited the physical toll the game has taken on him as the reason he will not be continuing his hockey career.

OK, so here's what you might want to remember about Seidenberg as far as his Bruins days. The team got him around the 2010 trade deadline and he got hurt after appearing in 17 games, so he did not end up playing in the playoffs. The following season -- 2010-2011 -- he was a key piece of the team. He was the No. 2 defenseman and finished with a career-high 32 points. That year, he helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup.

Seidenberg turned out to be a major asset all postseason. That was a grueling 25-game playoff schedule for the B's, and his stats were pretty good throughout it. Among skaters, his 690:49 was a team-high in ice time. In the process, he put up a goal and 10 assists as well as a plus-12 plus/minus rating.

Seidenberg played for the Bruins through the end of the 2015-2016 season when the team bought him out of his contract. He appeared in 401 games overall. His 2013-2014 season got cut short by a torn ACL which kind of led to his demise as a player.

So yeah, it was a decent career for Seidenberg. He won the cup and no one can take that away from him. That's something special.
