David Ross is the Cubs manager!

Joe Maddon is no longer the manager of the Chicago Cubs.

Remember him from his days with the Tampa Bay Rays (and Devil Rays)? Well, you don't have to think about him much anymore (potentially). He always used to be called like the smartest manager in baseball and whatever, but guess what? The Cubs don't agree...

Instead, they went ahead and hired someone with no professional baseball coaching experience: David Ross. And what a hire it is. The former Cub was Jon Lester's personal catcher not only in Boston, but in Chicago as well. He will be Jon Lester's manager despite also being his former teammate. I know. It's wild.

Not sure if he's going to be a good manager or not because a lot of people come and go and the results are a bit surprising.

However, what I do know is that Red Sox connections amongst MLB managers run deep. Alex Cora, a former Red Sox player, manages the Red Sox. Terry Francona, the Red Sox manager from 2004 to 2011, manages the Cleveland Indians. Torey Lovullo, a former Red Sox bench coach and the 2015 Interim manager, is the Arizona Diamondbacks skipper. Bob Melvin of the Milwaukee Brewers played for the Red Sox for a season. The same could be said for Rocco Baldelli, who is the Minnesota Twins manager. Also, Dave Roberts, who once stole a base for the Red Sox, managers the LA Dodgers. Let's add Chris Woodward, manager of the Texas Rangers, to that list. Oh yeah, and Kevin Cash spent parts of two seasons with the team -- including the tail end of 2007 (he has a ring to show for it).

Recently fired Phillies manager Gabe Kapler could land on his feet somewhere and former Red Sox coach Tim Bogar is a candidate for the Mets job. So yeah, very long list.
