David Price accused of getting hurt playing video games

There's a pretty interesting theory going around in Red Sox land right now--and it's fringe conspiracy stuff--but it could be true.

There's this idea going around that David Price, the highest paid pitcher in Red Sox history, could not pitch against the New York Yankees on Wednesday because of the video game Fortnite. He's been dealing with mild carpel tunnel syndrome which has caused him to lose sensation in his hands and the Red Sox play a lot of video games during their free time, so that's what people are saying.

This isn't just some fan wearing a tin foil hat saying this either. No. You're seeing fans, radio, columnists and reporters saying it.

In all honesty though, the whole thing seems a little far-fetched. Price is 32 years old. He's either Gen X or Millennial, so he clearly grew up around technology. If Price likes playing video games now, why would this just happen all of a sudden now? It's a great narrative, I'll give the media that. They love that stuff--like how everyone was saying the Red Sox team last year wasn't likeable because Price got mad at Dennis Eckersley and had a DL stint.

It seems like people want to pile on Price because he was a enemy of the Red Sox before he was a member of the team, because he got off to a rough start in 2016, because he didn't do well in the playoffs and because he doesn't play nice with the media who clearly dislikes him.

But you know what? He's a very fine pitcher when healthy. We know Price can be one of the best pitchers in the game when he's on his game. He still has yet to really show it in Boston yet, but it may be coming. It's just a shame he got this freak injury and people are claiming he's afraid of the Yankees because of it. The dude has won the Cy Young Award before. Sheesh.
