Connecticut River Museum Annual Holiday Train Show
Like always the Connecticut River Museum Annual Holiday Train Show was loved and enjoyed by many this year. Train artist Steve Cryan’s family’s friendly exhibit the Annual Train Show returned for the 22nd edition with its old magic coupled with new charms. A 26 foot model train layout that features added train engines and more illustrated settings was on display for onlookers from 19th November, 2015 to 15th February, 2016.
Given the diverse age group that is interested in the show and has frequented the show over the years, they have surprises in store for young and old visitors. This year, the “I SPY Scavenger Hunt” challenged visitors to compete in finding numerous objects that had been camouflaged within the backdrop. For the younger audience, the exhibit provided an opportunity to get hands-on with an American Flyer and Lionel Train layout that was especially designed keeping the younger admirers in mind.
The Connecticut River Museum preserves, and most importantly celebrates the heritage of the Hartford region of Essex. But the historic importance of the Museum should be no reason to dissuade visitors from perceiving this show as something only for the history obsessed seniors and elders and not for the kids. In fact the exhibition lives to its tagline of a ‘family friendly’ event as the admission charge for kids under the age of 6 is absolutely free.
With hundreds of miniature trains, the 26 feet model stands out on display and the whole display looks like a world of its own. And with a television screen displaying the live video from a camera attached to one of the trains, visitors actually got to visually experience the ride.
Though the Connecticut River Museum Annual Holiday Train Show has wrapped up this year, it is an annual event. So make sure you keep an eye out next year to enjoy this event, regardless of your age group.
