Chris Sale kind of just blew the Red Sox World Series chances

The odds are stacked up against them now.

The Boston Red Sox were unable to get it done in game one of the ALDS on Thursday. Chris Sale straight up didn’t pitch like Chris Sale. Of course, the Houston Astros have arguably the best lineup in baseball–especially against left-handed pitching. So it might not come as too much of a shock that they were able to snag game one of the series and albeit it is not the biggest surprise we have ever seen, it’s still not a good sign for the Red Sox in a best three of five series.

To be fair, no one was really expecting Sale to let up seven runs in five innings, even if the Red Sox other toys they paid a lot of money for broke in crunch time last year (specifically David Price and Rick Porcello). Seriously though, Sale was better than either of them ever were–for the Red Sox at least.

Not making excuses for Sale because he absolutely earned that loss, but I think be now we all know late season Sale is not the best pitcher in the Red Sox rotation (it’s Drew Pomeranz). The dude, who is listed at 6-foot-6 and 180 pounds, is lanky as heck. Without much muscle, of course he’s gonna fade once he surpasses 200 innings. From August onward this season, Sale had a 4.09 ERA in 11 starts headed into the postseason. And if we really break it down, it was the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees who beat him up bad. Those are good teams–playoff teams.

It doesn’t really matter if you can beat up on the Rays and the Blue Jays once you’re in October. Those teams that strike out left and right don’t make it that far.

So yeah, even if Chris Sale is a “ace”, he still deserves full-blame for this. If the Red Sox don’t make it past the ALDS this season, you know who to blame…
