Celtics waive former draft-and-stash guy

Celtics waive former draft-and-stash guy

OK. Finally. Someone can say it out loud.

Draft-and-stash draft picks are stupid in the NBA.

This isn't to rip any particular team or any player. It's being critical of the Boston Celtics, but we are going to avoid naming names -- like Guerschon Yabusele.

So the Celtics finally waived him. They didn't have a spot for him on their roster despite him being the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Alright, so here's where I always took issue with the Yabusele pick (and that's the first time I ever spelt his name right on the first try).

The draft and stash strategy is absurd. Why on earth would a team use a 16th overall pick on a guy they don't intend to put on their roster that season? It results in teams not drafting the best player possible but rather, someone they can let play in a foreign league so they don't HAVE TO put the player on the NBA roster that season.

This isn't baseball! Good players come out of college and foreign leagues all of the time to help their teams. If the Celtics didn't want a guy who could help their team right away, they really should have traded the pick. Yabusele really didn't work out for the team, even if people liked saying his name. In two years with the team, he put up 2.3 points per game with 1.4 rebounds.

Instead, his roster spot will likely end up going to the man, the myth, the Tacko Fall.

So, in other words, they will swap out one big man with a cool name for one with an even cooler name. I'm all for it, as long as the Celtics admit their 2016 draft strategy was faulty. We can all see it, so they might as well say it out loud.
