Bruins have work to do this offseason

Get a new head coach. Check. Make it to the playoffs. Check. Literally anything else. Not check. Or, maybe, not yet. Guess we’ll see what kind of direction they take there.

The Bruins have a team good enough to make the playoffs. They even have some talent on the Providence Bruins. That’s got to make you feel good. But they can’t sit idly (if that means what I think it does). Anyways, let’s break down what they need to do this offseason–because we all love playing the GM game, right?

Backup goaltender

Let’s be honest, Tuukka Rask got the job done for the most part last year. But behind him, no. Nothing. Not very productive. Anton Khudobin had some pretty good outings late in the year, but they could depend on him. Maybe they go after someone they’d feel comfortable giving 25-30 starts because, you know, you don’t wanna kill Rask.

Defensive depth

Say whatever you want about why the Bruins lost in the playoffs, but when you have a 20-year-old paired with a 50-year-old on D, there’s a good chance there’s a problem with your team. Zdeno Chara and Brandon Carlo will prob be together next year. OK. Fine. So what about Charlie McAvoy? And maybe the B’s could try to make that third pairing a little better. Maybe a little stronger.

Another wing

You want to remember the name Jake DeBrusk. That’s a wing who could help the Bruins at some point next season. In the meantime though, they’ve got to get a guy on their top two lines who can add to the scoring effort because, you know, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak can’t be expected to repeat what they did this past season–not can all of the burden fall on them in a team sport. Just got to take a sad line and make it better.
