Bruins extend a pair of locals

This is good news for the Boston Bruins. You might think they could've used the money better, or you might think that the money was used well. However, that's not what I am getting at here.

So, as you may have seen by now, the Bruins extended a pair of players' contracts: Charlie Coyle and Chris Wagner. Here is what NBC Sports Boston had to say about it:

"Coyle’s deal is a six-year contract that will pay him a total of $31.5 million ($5.2 million salary cap hit), while Wagner’s is a three-year contract that is worth just a little more than $4 million ($1.35 million salary cap hit)."

Wow! That's a pretty big deal for Coyle and for Wagner, you know what? He's still going to be a multi-millionaire by the end of it, so that works out pretty good too.

We can sit here and analyze the hell out of all of this, but that would alienate some people. We need to keep it light and point out why this is great: both of these gentlemen are from Massachusetts. They're playing for the team they rooted for growing up and will be for a long time now.

You see, Coyle is a Weymouth, Massachusetts guy and Wagner is a Walpole, Massachusetts guy. Does anyone know what the common thread is between those two towns? Yup! They're both Bay State League teams for high school sports -- AND they're Thanksgiving Day football rivals. I get the world has like close to eight billion people these days (and rising), but if that's not a small world then I don't know what is...

So yeah, these guys should end up being favorites among fans because of their local connections. I know it didn't work out for Hayes in Boston, even though he was from there, but whatever... This will hopefully be different.
