Bruins and Celtics doing well, but who has the brighter future?

Both the Boston Bruins and Celtics look to be in pretty good shape for the future.

Right now too, both teams have winning records — and look like near locks to make it to the playoffs, even though the playoffs are nearly two months away.

Currently, the Celtics are sitting at 33-25, which is good for fourth place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. The Bruins, on the other hand, are 33-22-6. Their 70 points are the fourth best in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.

Yesterday, Felger and Mazz had a debate on this very topic and while both teams have a strong team this year, it’s not even close — the Celtics have the brighter future of the two.

Are the Bruins an old team? Are they a young team? It’s tough to tell. They have been a strong team this decade. But it is hard to say exactly where they are going right now. Even if they are on the rise, it is tough to argue that anyone is on a higher rise than the Celtics.

Keep in mind, this is the team that went 25-57 during the 2013-2014 season. Last year, they did not look like a strong team. But they made the playoffs. This year, Danny Ainge does not even think his team is a championship caliber team and yet, they are one of the top teams in the NBA.

So in other words, there’s plenty more where this came from.

And they’re going to do something big in the next few years. As of right now, the have 17 draft picks in the next three NBA drafts (eight first rounders and nine second rounders). Since they have some guys they like and NBA rosters have a 15-man capacity, it’s safe to assume the C’s will make some big trades and draft a few serviceable players.

Even as the rise, the Celtics have had a hard time outdoing the Bruins’ TV ratings.

Winter will forever be a fight for fans between these two teams.
