This week, the premier travel review site, Trip Advisor revealed the results of its first-ever Travelers’ Choice Awards based on the input of real travelers/Trip Advisor reviewers.
The Boston Duck Tour ranked No. 8 on the list of top 10 experiences in the U.S. for its unique take on the run-of-the-mill guided city tour.
“Boston is best seen by land and water, and this duck tour takes travelers from Boston Common to the Charles River on a single excursion, all while riding in a rolling, floating piece of American military history,” TripAdvisor wrote. “Traveling by vintage, World War II amphibious vehicle, travelers will see beloved Boston neighborhoods from city streets and the river.”
The signature "DUCK" amphibious landing vehicle traces its history back to WWII when the allies created a half boat/half truck that could run on land and water, allowing them to unload supplies directly onto the beach. The vehicles were code-named DUKW, which eventually became "DUCK".
