Boston Common Frog Pond Named Best Skating Rink In America

The USA Today 10Best lists help travelers and adventure seekers determine the best spots to do just about anything around the country. From attractions to restaurants, hotels and bars - nothing is off-limits.

The site recently featured their 2017 Reader's Choice picks in several categories. The 10Best Reader’s Choice winners are chosen from a list of 20 nominees previously determined by USA Today travel experts in a range of topics. Readers then cast their votes to determine the top 10.

In keeping with the season, North American winter attractions such as ski resorts, terrain parks and ice skating rinks were among the readers' rankings.

Boston Common's beloved Frog Pond was chosen as the best skating spot in the USA, outshining even New York’s Bryant Park and Wollman rinks.

Technically, the Rideau Canal Skateway in Ottawa, Canada took the top honor for North America, but that small detail has not lessened the victory for Frog Pond staff and fans!

“We were thrilled to learn the results of this year’s reader’s poll,” Doug Zeghibe, executive director of The Skating Club of Boston, said in a statement.  “Our management team works hard to maintain great ice, offer superior customer service, and do their best to create a fun and inviting destination for folks who want to skate.  Plus, having a skating rink in the city’s beautiful Boston Common, is a top choice in and of itself.”

The Frog Pond is open to skaters on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sundays and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Skaters under 5 feet tall always enjoy free ice time and admission is just $6 for taller skaters. No skates? No problem! Rental skates are available in a variety of kids and adult sizes. Never skated before? Have one of the Frog Pond pros give you a lesson!
