Boston Bruins on a Cold Streak

To put it simply, the Boston Bruins are not playing their best hockey as of late – not even close.

In recent time, the Bruins have dropped seven of their last nine contests. And in their last five, which have all come in 2016, they have mustered just nine goals (1.8 goals per game).

Their most recent loss, 2-1 to the New York Rangers on Monday, helped reaffirm the Bruins’ woes on offense.

Before the season, it appeared as though it may be a weak spot. But an upper body injury to center David Krejci is only exploiting the situation even more.

At times this season, the Bruins have received contributions offensively from younger players. Ryan Spooner has done an admirable job filling in for Krejci while Frank Vatrano, 21, had a hat trick last month.

So far this season, somehow, right winger Brett Connolly has scored just five goals through 39 games. WEEI believes that his biggest issue is simply not taking enough shots – because he had so much success as a goal scorer at lower levels.

Right now, the Bruins’ biggest issue might not even be their offense – as strange as it may seem. At the moment, it appears to be their blue liners, on defense.

The Bruins could use a right-shot defenseman to replace Adam McQuaid, who was recently placed on the injured reserve list.

Unfortunately for the Bruins, their needs will not come cheap. There are several teams in the market looking for the same kind of player, according to Comcast Sports Net.

Certainly goaltending has not been an issue for the Bruins. Tuukkaa Rask has allowed just 2.49 goals per game while Jonas Gutsavsson is allowing 2.44 per game in 12 contests.

Unfortunately for the Bruins, their schedule is not getting any easier either. Tomorrow, they face the Philadelphia Flyers, a team who has won three straight contests.
