ArtWeek 2020 Will Be An Interactive Virtual Experience

Among the many changes in Boston this spring will be the conspicuously missing art displays across the city. ArtWeek, the beloved annual art festival was originally cancelled in the wake of COVID-19, but organizers announced Tuesday that the events will now be celebrated virtually.

ArtWeek 2020 has become ArtWeek at Home and will take place online from May 1-10. Beginning Friday May 1, event hosts from the Highland Street Foundation will share links to online content via the ArtWeek social media pages.

ArtWeek Boston began in 2013 and expanded to include statewide events in 2018.  This year’s festival was originally scheduled to host 800 events in more than 170 communities across Massachusetts, according to a press release.

“We were so disappointed to have cancelled ArtWeek due to the pandemic crisis, especially since it had grown over 30 percent from the year before after expanding statewide in 2018,” said Joe Spaulding, president and CEO of the Boch Center where many of the festival's events were to be held. “But the response from event hosts and partners inspired us to think outside the box. #ArtWeekAtHome celebrates the creative community and its response to this unprecedented period, as ArtWeek partners and event hosts continue to bring joy, comfort, and inspiration to thousands of people every day during this crisis.”

The schedule of events will include music, dance, crafts, theater, literature, film, history, and culinary arts in the form of virtual tours, concerts, at-home projects, and more.
