6 Ways Dogless Dog Lovers Can Get Their Puppy Fix In Boston

Showing up to one of the Bay area's dog parks without a dog may earn you a few suspicious glances, and while many of Boston's restaurants and bars welcome pets on their patios, there's no guarantee you'll be lucky enough to run into a group of brunching pups. So what's a dogless dog lover to do?

Thanks to the folks at Boston.com, your search is over! They rounded up 7 surefire options for connecting with Beantown's four-legged friends!

1. Join Dogspotting.

Dogspotting is a popular Facebook group with more than 15,000 pup-loving members. Folks post fun and adorable videos and images of their own dogs as well as pooches they encounter in their travels. You don't have to have a dog of your own to enjoy peeping the pups on Dogspotting!

2. Score a dog-friendly date with Dig.

Are you ready to meet the future co-parent of your dogs? Sisters Leigh and Casey Isaacson - originally from Newton, MA - have created an app for that. Dig is a unique dating app that matches up dog lovers in major cities in the hopes of creating the world's next "paw-er couple"!

3. Follow the Instagram-famous dogs of Boston.

4. Become a part-time pet owner on Rover.

The geniuses behind Rover.com know how ruff life can be without a dog, so they created a dog-sharing service! Sign up as a petsitter or dog walker and meet busy city folks looking for someone just like you. You can even make some extra money while getting your puppy fix! It's a win-win.

5. Volunteer at MSPCA-Angell or the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Do you have a few extra hours during the week? Maybe you work from home and could take in a temporary house guest? Sign up to volunteer at MSPCA-Angell, the Animal Rescue League of Boston, or one of the many other shelters across the state. Your contribution can range from donating supplies, to walking dog and cleaning cages, or even fostering dogs and cats in need!

6. Cuddle with a rescue pup at Wag Wednesday on City Hall Plaza.

The newly revamped City Hall Plaza offers fun, food, games and entertainment every day of the week. But nothing compares to Wag Wednesday! Every Hump Day, the folks from Shultz’s Guest House, a dog rescue shelter in Dedham, bring a sampling of their adoptable cuties to meet and cuddle with visitors!

The program was originally intended to run for eight weeks during the summer, but has been extended through the end of October due to its overwhelming popularity. Head to City Hall Plaza this Wednesday and meet your new best friend!

7. Make your way to Dog Therapy.

Dogs need people to teach them manners, and people need dogs to teach them how to relax and enjoy the simple things in life. At Dog Therapy, the humans and canines of Boston get exactly what they need!

The business is primarily a doggy daycare where young pups learn from animal professionals and wise adult dogs, but they also offer mutually beneficial "visiting hours". For just $10 humans can cuddle and socialize with the furry boarders. Stop by Monday through Friday from 12 -4 if you could use some Dog Therapy!
