Keeping children entertained indoors is no easy feet, especially once spring has sprung. Since developing young minds thrive on creativity, why not check out some of these fun and (mostly) free artsy activities?
1. April Make-A-Thon With The Boston Children's Museum
During the month of April, Boston Children’s Museum is hosting its first-ever Make-A-Thon! The challenge is to “Build an invention that helps someone.”
Kids are encouraged to use recyclable and sustainable materials, and share their creations on Instagram with the tag #MuseumMakeAThon. Be sure to use the caption to explain what your invention does and how you made it.
At the end of the month, a winner will be chosen by random drawing to receive a FREE year-long Museum membership for their family!
2. Craft Kits TO GO From The Painting Place
OK, so these projects are not free, but the convenience of picking up an engrossing project with all the materials your kids needs to get creating is definitely worth the price! Options include canvas painting kits or pottery/plaster projects and are delivered direct to your car when you arrive to pick them up.

3. Sample The Greenway Carousel Coloring Book
Since children cannot currently take a ride on the gorgeous Greenway Carousel, encourage them to do the next best thing: color in their favorite whimsical animal! The Greenway Conservancy is offering a free sample of their new coloring book for you to download at home. Available through April 30.
4. Milk Street Online Cooking Classes
Cooking is definitely an art form! With older kids bored at home, why not take the opportunity to help them learn this vital life skill?
The Milk Street Online Cooking School teaches kid and teen-friendly recipes and new ways to approach food and cooking. They are currently making their entire line of online cooking classes available for free through April 30, 2020.
5. Origami Video Tutorials & Art Projects From PEM
Help your kids learn the Japanese art of creative paper folding! The origami video tutorials from the Peabody Essex Museum encourage hand-eye coordination and dexterity. Projects range from fun finger puppets to downloadable coloring pages from PEM's children's book Piece by Piece.
