5 Boston Tree Lightings To Awaken Your Holiday Spirit

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it's time for the city of Boston to come alive with its yearly holiday glow. Several tree lighting events are scheduled, including the iconic Boston Common event where the annual gifted tree from our friends in Nova Scotia is lit!
Celebrate the official start of the holiday season with these 5 fun, free, family-friendly events!
Copley Square Tree Lighting on Nov. 26
The lighting of the Copley Square tree will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, November 26. Mayor Walsh will be in attendance, as well as NECN's Jenny Johnson. Santa Claus and his trusty reindeer, Rudolph will be available after the lighting for photos with the kids. You can also look forward to light refreshments and performances by vocalist Mark “Sing” Robertson, the Boston Children’s Chorus, the Boston Pops Brass Quintet, and Berklee College of Music’s Natalie Daniela Castro Diaz.
Faneuil Hall Holiday Spectacular on Nov. 27
If you cannot make it into the city for the lighting of Faneuil Hall's 60-foot Norwegian spruce tree, it will be broadcast live on WBZ-TV. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 with a performance by the Boston Community Choir. While the official lighting is sure to be a blast, the fun will continue every day thereafter through Jan 1, 2019 with the annual “Blink! Light and Sound Show!” Every half hour, the tree's lights will "dance" and blink to the tune of your favorite Christmas songs, including “Hallelujah” by Pentatonix, “All I Want For Christmas” by Mariah Carey, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Johnny Mathis, “Ring Christmas Bells (Carol of the Bells)” by the Ray Conniff Singers, “Wizards of Winter” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by The Jackson 5.
Frog Pond Skating Spectacular and Boston Common Tree Lighting on Nov. 29
Boston's official holiday tree is selected each year by The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources' Christmas Tree Specialist as an ongoing thank you gift for our assistance after the 1917 Halifax Explosion.
This year's 77th annual lighting event will include a free professional skating show at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 on the Boston Common Frog Pond. Afterwards, Mayor Walsh will light the tree at 7 p.m. Guests will enjoy performances by multi-platinum pop star Andy Grammer, Hillsburn, Makayla Lynn, Phaedra, Willy Wonka from the show “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the cast of North Shore Music Theater’s “A Christmas Carol,” and the Morning Star Baptist Church Gospel Choir.
Light Up Seaport on Nov. 30
Head to the beautiful Seaport Common on Friday, November 30 at 6 p.m. for live music, treats from nearby restaurants, giveaways, and the lighting of the Christmas tree. The third annual Light Up Seaport event will be held inside District Hall, with activities for children and a cash bar for adults.
Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour and Tree Lightings from Nov. 30-Dec. 2
Mayor Walsh will help light several neighborhood trees during the first weekend in December on the Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour. Stops include Brighton, the North End, East Boston, and West Roxbury, and will include holiday performances and visits with Santa.
